SELECTED: Toyota FT-86 Concept gallery @ Frankfurt IAA 2011
Browsing around the FRANKFURT IAA 2011 EXPO the hardest part was restraining the urge of staying around one car for too long. Kind of sad, but priority was to experience as much as possible.
One car that did get some extra love from Martin BILBILDER.SE Persson was the Toyota FT-86 concept that all us ”JDM-fans” are so curious about.
We got you a small gallery to in combination with out VIDEOCLIP of it give it a decent summary, now lets just hope it will be out as promised somewhere after new years; and that Subaru who will also do something similar- will rejuvinate the ”price competetive segment” among sportscars…
(I think what Martin is trying to show you here is that the ”chamber” they had put the FT-86 in had the entrance of an eye. Or are we all trying too hard to see this?)
(Been seeing some hate on this 6th edition of this concept, some think they really went too far in some parts of the design. Like the rear diffuser for example. I agree on the wing being quite… strange. And also the wheels feel quite tacky too. Other then that its gorgeous and reminds us a lot of the Lexus LF-A.)
(One of the most succesful things on this car are the front and rear lights, which feel ultra-modern and of really high quality. Usually cheaper sportscars get that ”plastic” feel when trying something bolder in design, but yet again we feel its got the Lexus LF-A feeling in premium design as well…)
Really have to hand it to Martin Persson to really beat any previous effort in capturing quality galleries in SUPERIOR SELECTED in just two mere days. We have around a handfull more to show you, and after that its Rani ”RANISFOTO.SE” Giliana who will show what he captured at the expo…

SELECTED: Always ambitious Audi @ Frankfurt IAA 2011 Expo!
In the shadow of the two giants BMW and Mercedes we have the always ambitious VW brand Audi doing their best to keep up. They had setup their own built from scratch call in the middle of the whole expo landscape, and offered a cool design with car being testrun ”around us inside” (hard to explain).
Among the news this year were a bunch of new S-models and facelifts of their normal car, also the top of the line Audi R8 GT Spyder. We liked their thinking and probably got their deserved attention for their efforts, this gallery represents a bit of the flair…
(With a bit of a compromise, at least Audi did bring some of their racing livery to the expo. But they did not get a seat inside the fancy built from scratch building, instead they stood in their loneliness outside a bit scuffed away. Still giving them props for showing them, the Audi A5 DTM is new for this upcoming season…)
(Here is a great shot of how it looked inside, as always with this borderline pretentious brand- we got a lot of ”piano white/black” surfaces and nice tinted glasses. From this angle you dont see that there was a very small track built ”around” the structure where cars passed by from time to time. The TT-RS and GT Spyder made some nice noise sometimes…)
(A concept I myself was looking forward to seeing was this new Quattro which is a revival of the 80’s where Audi as we all know ran Group B and such. Sadly it seems this wont get much further then being pushed out in the open next to the ”priority B” racecars. Good or bad idea by Audi to scrap it from production?)
(Another concept that is aimed towards really compact cars with attitude to roam the city with. Martin got quite attached to it on location, I just get colds shivers down my spine thinking about fitting in such a car- the future seems like a rough place for guys like me who are aroun 2m tall…)
(The oh so popular Audi A5 got its facelift and even sharper lines seems to be the melody of current trends at the moment. I have a soft spot for the A5, but being totally honest here; its because its like a ”poor mans Aston Martin” or something like that.)
(In the ”100 SECONDS OF AUDI R8 GT SPYDER” VIDEO we did point out that the class of carbonfibre was among the highest of the entire expo on Audis cars. Just an amazing mix of perfect weave with the right balance of clear coat to set it off totally. Surely it was among the cars that gave the most ”want one” cravings looking back…)
And thats Audi for ya, I think there is a pic somewhere on how the structure looked from the outside. Martin said in some naughty fashion it looked like a giant pile of whale-crap dressed up in fance white or something like that??
This gigantic expo is killing me, never realised that two days could give so much to write about. And we still skipped over around half of what was shown there since it only gave a mild rise of the pulse passing it by…

We all know Alfa Romeo make beautiful cars, and we all know Frankfurt IAA is a real treat filled with beautiful women as well during the press days; but did we expect to be totally speechless about what they brought to the expo…? No, and I think it shows in the video as well.
DACIA DUSTER 850HP PIKES PEAK RACECAR!

One of the positive surprises of the expo was that Dacia brought a car which could compete for the ”highest HP” award. Athough far from its stock form, the ”Duster” which is a 850HP racecar to climb mountains like Pikes Peak, was a mean sight to behold.

As expected, nothing was more of a pain in the ass then to get clear acces to the worlds most (deservedly) posh brand Ferrari. Since we are going to do a special about it later this fall, we honestly didnt try harder then this; but if you are a fan of the prancing horse then check out the clip anyway!

Another splendid convertible making its world premiere and making rich peoples lives even more difficult; ”which one should I buy?!”. Oh the poor things, well all we can say which makes logical sense is that the new GTC is one of our favourites if its all about arriving in style and cruising around!

If you liked the almost rude in eye-catching capabilities Cadillac concept, you will equally love what the German giant Mercedes brought with them to the expo. This Luxury concept oozes of science-fiction futuristic vibes and I doubt there is anyone that could match it in being 100% fabolous- not even Lady Gaga!

Another personal favourite now that we’ve had time to evaluate things, and I think the video made the concept some justice too- not going to win any awards for pure design… but as a concept and to demo what the Cadillac brand is all about; surely a winner!

A car they called ”ahead two generations” has a lot of hype to live up to, and we were not too impressed although we found some positive things to say about the front end of it. But could have been something ”more” right?

The brand new BMW M5 with its twin-turbo V8 engine did not dissapoint at all, in a way its more aggresive then ever- but still keeping us confused on how good they are still making it look so ”understated”. Check out the mental malfunction of combining Swedish with English to say ” B M W ” as well. 😉

Lamborghini was as expected quite a ”top dog” with their presence at Frankfurt, not is size; but in sheer candy for the visual sense. Make sure not to miss their special ”Lamborghini gridgirls” which this clip did capture some goodness of as well..

A very anticipated car and of the ”german giants” biggest releases at the expo. A car that is firmly sold with ephasis on the ”gull-wing” doors has lost them, and some unique for Mercedes misses in 100% quality. Strange?

One of my favorite cars now that the expo has kind of sunk in. Made some valid points on how added carbon goodness and all the other aggresive details finally made the R8 the supercar Audi wants to promote it as. You also get to see some of he interior of the very impressive hall they had built from scratch!

For all us big JDM-fans out there, this car had the most relevance to it as its almost being seen as a ”messiah” to rejuvinate our part of the car-world. Seeing it in person, lots of Lexus LFA but some remarks on the wheels and rear spoiler.

Today we got the world premiered Audi R8 GT Spyder being given 100 seconds of attention from the Superior Media team down at the FRANKFURT IAA 2011 MOTOR SHOW. The specially built from scratch Audi hall was very busy, and we were competing with many other video teams just to get a glimpse of this incredible machine!

I would have loved to see more of this car in action, it was actually running laps around inside the hall but it was mostly ”gimicky” to impress rather then giving up its true engine sound etc. Really impressed with Audi this time around, even if they will forever be the little brother of BMW and Mercedes they are as a brand honestly becoming exciting as hell!

Shame the expo is over, but gotto admit seeing the material and to share it will each time be like revisiting these two extremely memorable days! 🙂
Ett axplock bilder från första dagen på Frankfurt IAA bilmässa 2011
Innan vi går och lägger oss måste vi ju belöna alla våra trogna svenska läsares tålamod och uppmuntran med ett litet axplock blogg och bilder och från Frankfurt IAA bilmässan 2011 iaf?
Martin ”BILBILDER.SE” Persson och jag har sållat över de mest (spontana) bilderna han tog mellan varven av ca 90% filmande, mest ”100 seconds of…” typ av features som vi bestämde att göra. Slutsatsen är fyra stycken som alla har en liten story bakom sig.
Det blir mycket mer av den här varan, och vi hoppas ni förstår att det inte riktigt är det himmelrike man kan tro i tillgängligt nät och framförallt ro att lägga ut materialet vi fångar…
(SLS AMG Roadster var ju en efterlängtad release, och även om den vanliga versionen förmodligen blev så omåttligt populär tack vare sina ”måsvinge-dörrar” och starka koppling till gamla ur-klassikern SL; så ser denna riktigt bra ut utan dom. Däremot ifrågasätter vi om en verkligen är ”färdig” då det fanns många banala skvanker som att cabben så lite hafsigt ihoptryckt ut nedcabbad, och dörrar ärligt talat hade rätt dålig passform mot karossen? Inte likt Mercedes…)
(Den stora fienden till ovan Merca när det gäller att åka med toppen av, är Audis R8 GT Spyder som lanseras på samma dag. Där vi tyckte SLS drogs med ett par frågetecken på kvalitetskänsla, så gör denna totalt tvärtom och fick oss smälta totalt med sina underbara detaljer. Visst, Audi har gjort sig kända som en premiumtillverkare på detta vis; men vi tycker med denna mer ”trackday inspirerade” version de på allvar ger sig in i samma liga som Lamborghini och Ferrari t.ex. Stor favorit!)
(Är man på världens viktigaste och pampigaste bilmässa så kommer man även få se en hel del damer av samma ”klass” om man nu får objektifiera lite. Pierre lyckades bli kär hela tre gånger på mässan, och denna donna av Italienskt ursprung hos Lamborghini var en av de vållande. Bedöm själva och lämna en kommentar, Pierre hade rätt bryska kommentarer om jämförelsen med Elmia-brudar som vi tyvärr inte kan sätta i pränt…)
(Man ska vara stolt över sitt ursprung, och efter ett litet snack med en av cheferna bakom detta koncept Volvo kallar ”You” kände man det än mer. Vi ska göra en djupdykning av denna minimalistiska studie av skandinavisk lyx under morgondagen- men faktiskt så kände vi att det fanns en uppriktighet och mening bakom ”snacket” också som intresserade oss mycket. Well done Volvo, dessutom utan att skämmas ”det mest svenska som vi gjort på länge” i syftan på var kompetensen bakom konceptet från A till B funnits!)
Imorn blir det lite mer fokus på att fotografera, Martin har inte tagit en enda ”seriös” bild utan allt är mer ”papparazzi” på fri hand mellan att vi filmat. Är ändå otroligt många filmer likt den av TOYOTA FT-86 vi gjort innan. Så målet att ”visa hur det är på plats” ska vi absolut kunna nå när allt är sagt och gjort…
